Recently, I was talking with a group of ladies. Women from different backgrounds and social status, yet quite a few had this concern: their advice, viewpoint, and suggestions were valued by acquaintances and even strangers….but not so with friends and family. It has gotten to the point where some have decided to keep silent or just agree whenever a topic of discussion arises.
Does this sound like you or anyone you know? If so you are in good company. A verse from a sacred text says “A prophet is without honour only in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his own household”.
So what will you do? Will you continue to suppress who you are because of your loved ones opinions of you? Will you rationalize by saying they know you the longest so they should know you better than anyone else? Gandhi said “the voice of truth is as loud as our willingness to listen”. When it comes to defining YOU, will you choose to listen to the voices outside or will you listen.
I know the truth….and this is it. We are NOT here to change peoples opinions of us. We are here to let our light shine… YOU ARE HERE TO LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE AND TO DESIGN YOUR PATH. Using discernment will guide us so we CHOOSE when to share and when not to. After all the sacred text also said “do not throw your pearls before swine. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces”.
One of my favourite quotes from Jimi Hendrix is this:
Knowledge Speaks, but Wisdom Listens.
Use discernment and choose when to speak. This is quite empowering. It is not the same as suppressing your truth. Using discernment is but one of the gifts which comes from training the mind.
Here’s to knowing YOUR TRUTH
